‘Don’t Look Up’: Leonardo DiCaprio Was Weirded Out By Meryl Streep’s NSFW Scene

Leonardo DiCaprio views Streep as acting royalty and had a problem with an NSFW scene despite it being filmed by a body double.

Adam McKay’s Don’t Look Up follows Oscar winners Jennifer Lawrence and Leonardo DiCaprio as “two low-level astronomers who go on a giant media tour to warn mankind of an approaching comet that will destroy planet Earth.”

It’s one of the most star-studded films we’ve seen in recent times and features Jonah Hill, Meryl Streep, Ariana Grande, Tyler Perry, Timothée Chalamet, and many others. While the film boasts of an impressive array of actors, even they couldn’t help change the scathing reviews Don’t Look Up has received from critics.

A Different Side Of Meryl Streep

In a new interview with The Guardian, McKay discussed how the film saw a different side of Hollywood acting legend Meryl Streep (who plays United States President Janie Orlean). When asked if Streep agreed to film a nude scene, McKay revealed that a body double was brought in to play the part. But despite it not actually being Streep in the movie, her co-star Leonardo DiCaprio was weirded out by it.

“She is fearless,” said McKay of Streep. The director added that it was a body double who filmed the scene as Streep, and it that wasn’t the actor herself … but that didn’t matter to DiCaprio, who had an issue with it.

“And yes, that is a body double. But you know who had a problem with it? Leo [DiCaprio],” McKay added.

The filmmaker revealed that Leo viewed the actress as “film royalty” and didn’t like the idea of the scene. The Revenant actor also questioned McKay if it was necessary to film the sequence in question, but Streep “didn’t even bring it up.”

“Leo just views Meryl as film royalty … although maybe royalty is not a compliment … but as such a special figure in the history of film. He didn’t like seeing her with the lower back tattoo, walking for a second naked. He said something to me like: ‘Do you really need to show that?’ And I was like: ‘It’s President Orlean; it’s not Meryl Streep.’ But she didn’t even blink. She didn’t even bring it up.”

Don’t Look Up is available to stream on Netflix.
